Army characters aren't generally assigned to fleets, per se; yes, the Imperial Army is divided up into a number of subunits (Army Groups, Field Armies [which we call "Systems Armies"], Corps, Battlegroups, etc.), but in practice there are as many of these as we want. So, for example, you could be in the second fireteam in Gamma Squad, part of 6th Platoon, 8th Company, 12th Mechanized Battalion, 7th Regiment, 2nd Armored Battlegroup, X Corps, 124th Army, 12th Systems Army, in 1st Army Group. If you wanted to transfer to, say, 25th Airborne within the same fielding, you can simply update your bio with the move, update your tasking group in the user control panel (this page, under "Organizational Unit" at the bottom), and there you have it. We do recommend making some mention of things in your RP, though, just so the Surface Marshal/Supreme Commander know what's in the field. Higher commands (full armies, systems armies, army groups) are granted by Imperial Army High Command (IMARHICO, primarily the Surface Marshal and staff, but can also be granted by the Supreme Commander or Emperor).

Special Operations is slightly different. You must apply to be this type of troop by posting in this thread, then complete the three stickied threads in the Training Center. Your application will be considered after the three threads have been completed to the satisfaction of whoever is reviewing them, usually the Surface Marshal (consider that your washing-out process). Once accepted into the Special Forces, you can then RP into an SF battalion using the same method as above.

Naval players have yet another means of transfer analogous to the Special Forces. You get one ship of your choice to start off with (of the light frigate, corvette, or monitor classifications) for free. If you want to move to a new ship or new fleet later, say after a promotion, you need to post in this thread here requesting a command transfer. The Commanding Officer (CO) of the fleet will then reply, either accepting or denying the request. The latter does not happen often, but it can and is up to the CO's discretion. After acceptance, you can then RP out the fleet/ship change as normal. For higher-ranked characters, usually those with Commodore rank or higher, commands are granted by the Imperial Executive Command (IMEXCO).

Fighter pilots follow similar means to the Army. ISIS agents are not assigned to any specific fleet (always being part of First Fleet's Task Force Observer), but may have a posting on other ships. Shadow Hand and Dark Jedi are also mostly fleetless, the former not being acknowledged by IMEXCO (or even in existence anymore... ;) ), and the latter always technically belonging to First Fleet, where Task Force Omega Order One is located.

Freelancers, obviously, have no fleets (unless they RP out controlling a pirate fleet, as Red Jack and Luciana Endivain each do).

Does that answer your question, Vito?
