Sensor Shroud
The sensor shroud is a new and ingenious device building on old technologies. It is
primarily an active stealth system which diffuses the emissions of the ship fitted with the
shroud, making it difficult to detect. But it also uses the sensor jam emissions it sends out
as a form of short-range sensor. Since it works as an active sensor system it is effective in
pinpointing enemy ships in the immediate surrouding space, but the range is limited simply
because the shroud would be counter-productive and make detection easier instead of harder
if it sent out its emissions beyond short range. What makes this device so useful is that
using active sensors are usually detrimental to maintaining stealth; not so in the case of
the shroud.
The sensor shroud came into use shortly before the Yuuzhan Vong war and was used with good
results, both for spying in enemy territory and as a detection system. The shroud presented
here is an early model with moderate efficiency.
