General Overdrive Booster "Stardust"
Drawing upon experiences derived from general starship power boosting from the days
of the Clone Wars, the SubLight Acceleration Motor, and the S-7 Cougar's booster bank,
NIF researchers devised the General Overdrive Booster, brand named Stardust. The
overdrive can be fitted to older ships, but those ships generally don't have power
systems that can handle peak burst boosts, although they can run at lower boost
over a longer time instead.
Stardust stores power at a adjustable rate when the ship is utilizing less than 100%
reactor output. This power boost can then be used in various ways as the ship's
commander sees fit. For example, it can increase sublight acceleration, deflector
shields, or firepower. The maximum output doubles one of these ratings for ten minutes.
Alternatively, it can boost several systems at once, or to a lesser degree over
longer time. For example, a 10% firepower boost could last for over an hour and a
half. During the first test run where Emperor Kane himself was present, His Imperial
Majesty used the booster bank to replenish depleted shield power. (Ref: the name is
a homage).
