Missile Intercept Shield Turret

MIST is a branch development from the Missile Intercept Security System with the same purpose, intercepting enemy warheads. MIST however uses small shield projectors to create a small shield umbrella blocking incoming warheads. The size, shape, and projected distance of the umbrella depends on several factors; warhead size, assumed warhead strength, present jamming, deviating course and speed. Essentially the system has enough artificial intelligence on its own to determine the necessary minimal size to effectively intercept the locally incoming warheads.

However, the MIST system is also designed to work together with Imperial Battle Control and take advantage of the large computational and power of Deflector-class Star Destroyers, if present, in order to co-ordinate to overall optimal efficiency during battle.

MIST turrets are deployed evenly over the hull of a defended starship.
Placement: x / 100 * 4 = x / 25, where x is the lenght of the capital ship to be protected. This formula determines the minimum amount of MIST emplacements neeeded for full coverage.

The shield will block incoming warheads in order to destroy them well away from the ship, but the shield umbrella will burn out as a result, and a new one must be created to block another warhead. MIST shields are much weaker than regular shield generators and are not designed to be used along with the regular shields, although power can be re-routed from the MIST turrets to other systems, including regular shields. A single MIST turret can block swarms of warheads, but only if they arrive together. This is very effective in disrupting the common New Republic tactic using multiple fire-linked missiles to overcome local regular shield generators.

MIST turrets are very small protrusions on the hull of a ship, and cannot be easily detected in advance. MIST shields are designed to "burn out", and redepolyed immediately, rather than protecting by strength.

Weaknesses: The system is very effective in destroying swarms of warheads, but has a limited rate at which it can do so. MIST can be overwhelmed by numbers, especially with waves attacks concentrated locally. Enemy fighters can typically not be destroyed by MIST unless they are unshielded. This model of MIST only utilizes particle projectors, though ray systems are under development.
