Information regarding ancient and outdated ships.

Hammerhead-class Heavy Cruiser

Little is known about this four-engine ship design except that it was the main Republic capital ship in the Mandalorian Wars, approximately 4000 years ago, and during the period after the Jedi Civil War. Some famous ships in this class are the Endar Spire, Harbinger, Sojourn. Like the Aurek fighters, it was used for 3000 years, albeit with extensive revisions and modernization.

Interdictor-class Cruiser

The Leviathan was designed as the flagship for a new generation of Republic warships during the Mandalorian Wars. Unfortunately, the Leivathan itself defected to the Sith forces under Darth Malak. It was mass-produced during this short outbreak of the Sith, but it is not known if any ships from that time have survived until our days. The original Leviathan was rumoured to be an interdictor ship, featuring gravity wells four thousands years before they were discovered by the Empire. Presumably, if this is correct, the knowledge of gravity wells was at some point lost (perhaps at the Battle of Rakata Prime) and later rediscovered by the Empire. (Ref: The name comes from the official guide. It's a stupid name. Live with it.

Sith Fighter

This fighter was widely used by Darth Malak's forces. It appears to be some kind of hybrid using both Republic and alien technology. It is an extremely lightweight short-range fighter with minimum comfort and protection for the pilot. The wings fold together for minimum storage room which allows more of them to be kept aboard their motherships. For its time it was very fast and manoeuverable. It even uses two ion engines. These similiarities with the much later Sienar TIE fighter developed for the Republic during its last days suggest that Sienar rediscovered the technology used in these vessels and were able to duplicate it.

Aurek Fighter

This lightweight interceptor was used as a response to the light, fast Sith interceptors. It had minimal room for the pilot and minimal armament, just like its opposition, although not quite to the same extreme. It was in service for 3000 years and was extensively upgraded and revised during this time. It is possible that it served as a template for the Delta-7 interceptor. The fighter was originally named A-Wing, predating the RZ-1.

G-Wing

This newer assault fighter was used by the Republic during the Mandalorian Wars. Like many other craft, some of them ended up in Sith hands by defection. It was fairly fast for an assault fighter, and had atmoshperic capability. It seems that at least one version of this fighter could carry up to three people and serve as a light shuttle in a pinch. It is not known if this was a modification to a standard fighter or if the G-Wing also came out on the market in a shuttle version.

Onderonian Light Transport

This transport ship comes from the period of the Onderoian Civil War in the beginning of Queen Talia's regime. Its bulky, two-engine design strongly hints that the Onderonians built their own ship types with similar qualities, although they used the same light fighters as the Republic. The massive engines suggest a very fast ship, and records of this ship's atmospheric performance agrees.

Cal-class Battleship

The Cal-class battleship is about 10,000 years old. It was the last of the Kumauri Battleship series, named after the warlord Vall Kumauri who tried to build his own empire. He had a strong fleet mainly consisting of these large battleships. They served in hundreds of navies, including that of the Old Republic. The ship's primary weapon is the gigantic "Mass Driver Cannon" that covers the top of the main hull. Asteroids could be tractored into the rear end of the weapon and accelerated tremendously in the cylinder-shaped cannon. When the asteroids were shot out of the cannon they had such a high speed that they were very dangerous projectiles which could not be stopped by the shields in those days. The ship had also a huge complement of turbolaser and laser cannons. These weapons - very weak and short-ranged compared with today's standards - could shoot larger asteroids into smaller pieces so that they could be tractored into the "Mass Driver Cannon".

Vainglorious-class Heavy Cruiser

The Vainglorious-class Cruiser is an early design by Rendili StarDrive, dating back to the days of the Old Republic. It was even introduced before Rendili's famous Invincible-class dreadnaught cruiser, over 3000 years ago. Those days, the Vainglorious was one the Old Republic's main fleet vessels, manufactured for space combat and featuring dozens of Turbolaser Batteries. But the ship also has enough troops aboard to engage in ground battles and other combat scenes located on planetary surfaces. The starship's construction allows it to enter a planet's atmosphere, a feature that was later also used in the Victory-class Star Destroyer Mark I. Its tractor beam array is located at the bottom of the hull, so that smaller craft can immediately be pulled into the large hangar bays.

With the development of newer starship designs by the Rendili Corporation and the demand for more heavily armed vessels toward the end of the Old Republic and the rise of the Empire, the Vainglorious cruiser was slowly replaced with the Dreadnaught battlecruiser and the Victory Star Destroyers. However, some cruisers can still be encountered on the galactic space lanes. Some of them still serve in the navies of more remote star systems while some others have fallen into smugglers and pirates hands.

Basilisk War Droid

Basilisk War Droids are essentially starfighters, but they have several innovative, unique designs which in no small part contributed to the Mandalorian's initial success in the Mandalorian War against the Old Republic 4000 years ago.

Basilisks have the first recorded moving s-foil design which makes move with the machine to provide maximum manueverability. The moving s-foil design was later incorporated in many other starfighters, but only the Star Viper fully utilizes a similar design. This comes as no surprise given that both designs are Mandalorian, although there is many thousand years between them.

Basilisks come in many different flavours depending on mission specifics, such as bombers, stealth ops, and air superiority. The depicted craft has four rocket boost engines and eight manuvering thrusters. Basilisks are also used as ground assault craft which can rapidly drop from orbit, plane out at zero altitude and strike at a given target on surface level with pinpoint precision and heavy weapons, a favoured attack method. They are made for a single pilot, although some versions had a tiny cockpit for a couple passengers. The pilot rides on top of the droid, hence why the Mandalorians call them War Mounts. The droid is semi-intelligent and highely attuned to its master's wishes - this fly-by-wire, limited thought control system allows man and machine to function as one - this the most important aspect for its success. In addition to this, it has fearsome armament and state-of-the-art equipment. Controlling a Basilisk well is considered an art among Mandalorians and is a mark of a great warrior, which means high status in Mandalorian culture. It is understandable that Basilsks are still famous four milennia later.

Shuttle

This transport shuttle was a common model in use throughout the Republic around the Jedi Civil War. This comes as no surprise since the ship is very functional. It has two dual ion engines and even two atmospheric thrusters for higher speed. This combined with its stabilizer wings makes for a very capable, agile and fast ship for both atmospheric and interplanetary transport. This is probably an ancient forerunner to the famous, sleek, Lambda-class.

Havoc-class Imperium Destroyers

This is not an old ship at all. It is the first of NIF:s own starship designs resulted from a unique joint venure between Sienar Fleet Systems, Kuat Drive Yards and the New Imperial Federation. The Havoc-class was a long range assault ship, designed to launch devastating warheads from beyond normal weapons range. It sported excellent starfighter defences, but was unsuitable for the front line. It featured the latest in missile design and automated ships systems, making the vessel, when used correctly, a deadly support ship to the ships of the line.

Complete technical background
However, the Havoc-class was only ever built in four ships. The Havoc, the Anarchy, the Bedlam, and the Chaos. It was released brand new in C1M7 and performed brillantly as support vessels. But not long after this design was completed, the Emperor-class cruiser was completed, and since it outperformed the Havoc in every which way, the missile destroyers were rendered obsolete and soon to be scrapped to fuel the NIF war machine.

One of these ships, the original Havoc still exists in orbit around Clak'dor VII as a part of the Imperial War Museum's daily tours.
