Rebel Starfighters
Imperial Database > Rebel Starfighters

This information regarding rebel starfighters has been complied by Imperial Intelligence. There are certain things all they all have in common compared to Imperial fighters. They all carry the extra weight of life support equipment and most of them has a hyperdrive, while they lack the modular beam weapon compartment, which holds either a tractor beam, a jammer or a decoy beam. Instead they carry carbon-fibre chaff mines or flare missiles.

X-Wing T-65B

The X-Wing is the signature fighter of the New Republic. The T-65B is the same model that were used at the Battle of Yavin, and remained in service in the age of Thrawn. Even after this date, it remains more popular with rebel pilots than the newer A2, since it is a trusted and reliable craft. Its laser cannons are roughly twice the power of Imperial standard, and can fire continuously at full recharge. It is a versatile craft, able to perform well in any situation.

Recommendation: Although an overall good craft, is has certain weaknesses. Any TIE can outmanoeuvre it easily, and as an assault fighter, the X-Wing carries too few missiles to be a threat to capital ships unless in large numbers or with exceptional pilot skill. We suggest lining up on its six and fire concussion missiles at it for a quick kill.

X-Wing T-65C A2

The A2 is the current standard X-Wing model in the New Republic. It is overall better than a standard TIE Interceptor, but outmatched by the TIE Advanced. It has more powerful lasers and proton torpedoes than the original, and increased cargo compartment space.

Recommendation: Pretty much the same as model B, but faster. Same treatment.

X-Wing T-65C AC4 "Advanced"

The newest model of the X-Wing came into existence because of the competition of newer, faster starfighters such as the E-Wing or the A-9 Vigilance. It features improved engine thrust and numerous advances in targeting, fire control, and power distribution. Armament remains similar to the original design. Consumables were cut down to 2 days supply. It is all in all a dangerous adversary to most Imperial starfighters.

Recommendation: Use tractor beams whenever possible to slow it down, then proton torpedoes.

X-Wing T-65D A1

The first in the D series X-Wings, this is a limited production model with a navicomputer instead of an astromech unit. This makes the fighter a bit more efficient than the T-65 A2, with slightly improved acceleration and manuverability, but NR pilots were not comfortable with these ships. Coupled with a sabotage in the navicomp factory, the model was short-lived.

Recommendation: Same as model B and C.

Specifications:

Countermeasures: 10 Chaff Bursts or 10 Decoy Mines or 7 Flares

X-Wing T-65XJ

Sporting new w4j.4 fusial thrust engines, the XJ is a new series of the T-65 X-Wing which is still limited to elite squadrons. It has a higher rate of acceleration, improved manoeuverability, stronger shields, and adds a third torpedo launcher. Ref: most stats are estimated.
Recommendation: A tough bugger with speed, we recommend lasers set to concentrated fire. Advanced concussion missiles may help as well, but torpedoes are too slow outside point blank range.

Specifications:

Name/Type: T-65XJ X-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Incom Corporation
Combat Role: Superiority/Medium Assault
Crew: 1
Length: 12.5 Meters
Speed: 120 MGLT, 1050 Kph

R-22 Spearhead

Little known experimental predecessor of the A-Wing. It came into test production run before the Battle of Yavin. It has the same basic frame and looks just like the later A-Wing. Size Ref

Recommendation: Rarely seen and usually confused with the A-Wing. Performs similarly, but doesn't have the weaponry of the later A-Wing production models.

Specifications:

RZ-1 A-Wing

The A-Wing is a lightweight, fast interceptor. Until the appearance of the A-9 and the X-Wing Advanced, it was the fastest rebel fighter in existence. Size Ref

Recommendation: We deem the reputation of the A-Wing to be exaggerated; TIE Interceptors modified with shield generators and missiles are perfectly on par in performance, and more advanced Imperial designs will have no difficulty in wasting the fragile A-Wings. We suggest to aim for the exposed cockpit, as even a minor hit may injure or kill the pilot. Intel determines that A-Wings are no threat to capital ships unless in great numbers.

Specifications:

Name/Type: RZ-1 A-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Dodonna/Blissex
Combat Role: Superiority/Interception
Crew: 1
Length: 4.8 Meters
Speed: 120 MGLT, 1300 Kph

Weapons: 2 Borstel RG9 Laser Cannons, 2 Dymek HM-6 Concussion Missile Launchers (6 Missiles, or 12 Magpulse), 1 Jammer.
Countermeasures: 8 Chaff Bursts or 5 Flares
Special: Laser cannons can pivot up to 60 degrees.

RZ-1 A-Wing (Mark II)

The A-Wing was continously upgraded during its service life, but this was facilitated by altering existing models without producing a new ship with a new model designation. We have decided to give these ships designations for various models. This A-Wing has a new engine design, and it sports an effective combined sensor/stealth system which makes it invisible to casual sensor sweeps and difficult to achieve missile lock-on against. This model is still very rarely seen. Ref: most stats estimated.
Recommendation: They're tricky. Concussion missiles work best, but it takes twice the normal time to get a lock on, more if the A-Wing is jamming you. If you have and can handle a fast ship, it's probably better to try and get on its six.

Specifications:

Name/Type: RZ-1 A-Wing Mk II
Designer/Manufacturer: Dodonna/Blissex
Combat Role: Superiority/Interception
Crew: 1
Length: 4.8 Meters
Speed: 150 MGLT, 1400 Kph
Acceleration: 22 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 125 DPF
Hyperdrive: x1
Shield Rating: 50 SBD
Hull Rating: 15 RU
Weapons: 2 Pivoting Borstel RG9 Laser Cannons, 2 Dymek HM-6 Concussion Missile Launchers (6 Missiles, or 12 Magpulse), 1 Jammer.
Countermeasures: 10 Chaff Bursts & 7 Flares
Special: 50% Stealth Rating.

E-Wing Series II

The E-Wing is possibly the best rebel starfighter in existence, only rivalled by the X-Wing advanced. It has all the versatility of the X-Wing with speeds to match the TIE Interceptor. It features a powerful shield, highly durable frame, and a large number of warheads. Intel considers this fighter to be a serious threat to even the TIE Advanced. They may even pose a threat to capital ships.

Recommmendation: Fortunately, the E-Wing has weaknesses. While the originally weak weapons has been upgraded in the series II (aka model B) to three times the output, they are prone to overheat and even overloading to the point of exploding. Furthermore, it has unreliable electronics. Imperial pilots are recommended to exploit this fact with jammers and decoys.

Specifications:

Name/Type: E-Wing Class B
Designer/Manufacturer: FreiTek, Inc.
Combat Role: Superiority/Heavy Assault
Crew: 1 + R7 unit
Length: 11.2 Meters
Speed: 110 MGLT, 1250 Kph
Acceleration: 21 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 104 DPF
Hyperdrive: x2
Shield Rating: 80 SBD
Hull Rating: 40 RU
Weapons: 3 Heavy Blaster Cannons, 1 Torpedo Launcher (16 Torpedoes or Magpulse)
Countermeasures: (est.) 10 Chaff Bursts or 7 Flares

E-Wing Series III

This improved version of the E-Wing has removed the drawbacks from the early versions, and has improved much of the rest, including the electronics and sensor suite. This model is rapidly seeing increased use in the New Republic, particularly in the Fifth Fleet. Imperial Intelligence has since concluded that one of the most dangerous features of the Series III is its targeting suite, which can give even an average pilot a fair chance to land a torpedo hit. Ref: Most stats are estimated.

Recommmendation: The ship has no particular weaknesses. It is a highly capable all-round superiority fighter. Inexperienced pilots up against a Series III should work in pairs and rely on warheads.

Specifications:

Name/Type: E-Wing Class B
Designer/Manufacturer: FreiTek, Inc.
Combat Role: Superiority/Heavy Assault
Crew: 1 + R7/R8 unit
Length: 11.2 Meters

Weapons: 3 Heavy Laser Cannons, 1 Torpedo Launcher (16 Torpedoes or Magpulse)
Countermeasures: 20 Chaff Bursts & 10 Flares

E-Wing Series III/b

This improved version of the E-Wing has removed the drawbacks from the early versions, and has improved much of the rest, including the electronics and sensor suite. This model is rapidly seeing increased use in the New Republic, particularly in the Fifth Fleet. Imperial Intelligence has since concluded that one of the most dangerous features of the Series III is its targeting suite, which can give even an average pilot a fair chance to land a torpedo hit. Ref: Most stats are estimated. This version is 20 MGLT faster than the canon version. It came into existence through NIF-developed canon in which the NR got hold of an improved starfighter engine.

Recommmendation: The ship has no particular weaknesses. It is a highly capable all-round superiority fighter. Inexperienced pilots up against a Series III should work in pairs and rely on warheads.

T-Wing

The T-Wing is a fast, light interceptor. It is highly impopular with rebel pilots compared to the A-Wing and thus a rare sight. Although fast and inexpensive, it is fragile and sports relatively weak armament. It has become fairly popular with pirates and local governments.

Recommmendation: T-Wings are not particularly maneuverable compared to Imperial fighters and not considered much of a threat, but bombers should watch out for this fast interceptor.

Specifications:

Name/Type: T-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Hoersh-Kessel Drive Incorporated
Combat Role: Interception
Crew: 1
Length: 10 Meters
Speed: 111 MGLT
Acceleration: 21 MGLT/s

New Republic Defender

The New Republic Defender is interesting in the fact that it is similar to the concept of the TIE Line Fighter; cut all excess equipment to get superior maneuverability, good speed, and low cost. Did the rebels learn something after six years of galactic civil war? In any case, the Defender is mostly used for planetary defence, but has steadily become more and more numerous in the Republic navy as well, mainly replacing the old Y-Wings and Z-95s. We belive that the NR Defender design was derived from the Imperial Death Star Defender, due to its amazing similarity (and the fact that the rebels acknowledge that it was derived from an older design). Like the DSD it can only fire the laser cannon under the cockpit when the strike foils are closed. While higly maneuverable in space, the ship suffers greatly in atmospheric performance and is reduced to about 42 DPF.
Recommmendation: The Defender's greatest asset is the ease with which it can perform exceptional manoeuvres. It can spin around 180 degrees in mid-flight in the vacuum of space by simply firing one maneuvering jet forward and one backward, so watch out for return fire. It is not very fast however, so missiles is the best bet to kill it. A tractor beam is very useful for battling a Defender as well.

Specifications:

Name/Type: New Republic Defender
Designer/Manufacturer: Republic Engineering Corporation
Combat Role: Interception
Crew: 1 + 1 optional gunner
Length: 5.3 Meters
Speed: 88 MGLT, 1000 Kph
Acceleration: 18 MGLT/s (est.)
Maneuverability: 106 DPF
Hyperdrive: None.
Shield Rating: 50 SBD
Hull Rating: 14 RU
Weapons: 3 Laser Cannons (fire-linked, class 6).
Countermeasures: None.

A-9 Vigilance

The A-9 is an Imperial design, intended to replace the T/I, but when the primary construction world of the A-9 revolted, A-9's got into the hands of the rebels as well. It is a very fast, light interceptor, but it carries very powerful, swiveling lasers.

Recommmendation: The A-9 is fragile to damage, but difficult to target. Advanced Concussion Missiles is the best bet, particularly when used in conjunction with a tractor beam. A-9's are particularly dangerous to bombers.

Specifications:

Name/Type: A-9 Vigilance Interceptor
Designer/Manufacturer: Kuat Drive Yards
Combat Role: Superiority/Interceptor
Crew: 1
Length: 7.4 Meters
Speed: 120 MGLT, 1300 Kph
Acceleration: 22 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 114 DPF
Hyperdrive: None.
Shield Rating: None.
Hull Rating: 16 RU
Weapons: 2 Heavy Laser Cannons.
Countermeasures: None (BCM when in Imperial use).
Special: 270 degree swiveling lasers.

I-7 Howlrunner

The I-7 was designed for use by the Empire but after the loss of the reborn Emperor, the I-7 has come into use of the rebels.

Recommmendation: We deem the reputation of the I-7 to be exaggerated. It is not particularly fast or manoeuvrable compared to most Imperial fighters. To make it worse, it is only lightly armed. To be fair, it is an interceptor with overall good performance and with shields to aid. Use a missile or two to bring the shields down, then finish it with lasers. The only place where the I-7 could pose serious problems is within atmosphere.

Specifications:

Name/Type: I-7 Howlrunner
Designer/Manufacturer: Incom Corporation
Combat Role: Superiority/Interceptor
Crew: 1 + 1 optional
Length: 11.4 Meters
Speed: 120 MGLT, 1300 Kph
Acceleration: 18 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 114 DPF
Hyperdrive: Not standard.
Shield Rating: 50 SBD
Hull Rating: 14 RU
Weapons: 2 Front-mounted Laser Cannons.
Countermeasures: None (BCM when in Imperial use).

BTL-S3 Y-Wing

Although an old design, Y-Wings are still the rebels staple bomber, thanks to durability, ruggedness, reliability and availability.

Recommmendation: The only threat from Y-Wings to Imperial starfighters is pilot overconfidence. If left alone, they could get close and use their torpedoes. Y-Wings are a considerable threat in ground attack and against small capital ships. Use torpedoes for quick kill.

Specifications:

Name/Type: BTL-S3 Y-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Koensayr
Combat Role: Medium Assault
Crew: 2 + R2 unit
Length: 16 Meters
Speed: 80 MGLT, 1000 Kph
Acceleration: 11 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 59 DPF
Hyperdrive: x1
Shield Rating: 75 SBD
Hull Rating: 40 RU
Weapons: 2 Taim and Bak KX5 Laser Cannons, 2 Turreted ArMek SW-4 Light Ion Cannons, 2 Arakyd Flex Tube Proton Torpedo Launchers (8 Torpedoes)
Countermeasures: 20 Chaff Bursts or 13 Flares
Special: The ion cannons can target individually.

BTS-A2 H-Wing

The H-Wing is a further development by Koensayr of the successful Y-Wing, but they are scarcely used by the New Republic due to high cost and crew requirements. Antother drawback is that the craft is even slower than the B-Wing, and while heavily armed, less so than the B-Wing.

Recommmendation: Quite slow but nearly as hard to kill as B-Wings. Proton Torpedoes are recommended. Rarely seen but a fair threat against capital ships with their many torpedoes, if left unchecked.

Specifications:

Name/Type: BTS-A2 H-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Koensayr
Combat Role: Heavy Assault
Crew: 1 + 2 Gunners
Length: 17.1 Meters
Speed: 50 MGLT, 850 Kph
Acceleration: Unknown.

Hyperdrive: x1
Shield Rating: 100 SBD (est.)
Hull Rating: 60 RU (est.)
Weapons: 1 Laser Cannon, 2 Proton Torpedo Launchers (16 Warheads), 2 Light Ion Cannons.
Countermeasures: Unknown - most likely chaffs or flares.

B-Wing

The B-Wing is the heaviest rebel bomber, on par with the Skipray Blastboat. It was originally developed to combat Imperial Nebulon-B frigates guarding convoys.

Recommmendation: B-Wings can take an astonishing amount of punishment and carries enough ordinance to be a threat even to larger capital ships. Fortunately, they are easy prey to Imperial starfighters, although it is very difficult to score a kill on a B-Wing unless you use torpedoes or missiles.

Specifications:

Name/Type: B-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer: Ackbar/Slayn & Korpil
Combat Role: Heavy Assault
Crew: 1
Length: 16.9 Meters
Speed: 91 MGLT, 950 Kph

Countermeasures: 15 Chaff Bursts or 10 Flares
Special: Targeting Laser

Z-95 Headhunter AF4

The Z-95 is the precursor to the X-Wing. The design is decades old, orignally an atmosperic craft that was adopted for space, but it still remains in service with the rebels and their allies, mainly for training purposes and covert missions. It is one of the oldest designs in service, but still popular on the private market beacuse of its reliability, ruggedness and easy customization. For the same reason, it is popular with pirates and criminals. Manufacture of the craft was stopped over a decades ago, with the last version being the AF4 coming out fresh right before the Clone Wars.

Recommendation: Z-95s rarely pose any threat at all to Imperial fighters unless in 4 to 1 numbers. Only a heavily customized Headhunter with a great pilot could be a threat.

Specifications:

Name/Type: Z-95 Headhunter
Designer/Manufacturer: Incom Corporation/Subpro Corporation
Combat Role: Superiority
Crew: 1
Length: 11.8 Meters
Speed: 85 MGLT, 1,150 Kph
Acceleration: 16 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 60 DPF
Hyperdrive: x2
Shield Rating: 20 SBD
Hull Rating: 15 RU
Weapons: 2 Taim & Bak KX5 Laser Cannons (Single or Fire-Linked) 2 Krupx MG5 Concussion Missile Launchers (8 Missiles or 6 Magpulse).
Countermeasures: 10 Chaff Bursts or 7 Flares

R-41 Starchaser

The Starchaser is often compared to the Z-95. It is almost as antiquated, but has slightly better performance. They are in use with rebels, pirates and planetary defence forces. It is a versatile craft, but lacks severly in performance compared to newer starfighters.

Recommendation: R-41's provides little but a temporary stopgap against Imperial fighters. The only possible threat is from the R-41's ion cannons, which may disable your craft if you get too cocky.

Specifications:

Name/Type: R-41 Starchaser
Designer/Manufacturer: Hoersh-Kessel Drive Incorporated
Combat Role: Superiority
Crew: 1
Length: 15 Meters
Speed: 100 MGLT
Acceleration: 16 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: 75 DPF
Hyperdrive: x2
Shield Rating: 30 SBD
Hull Rating: 15 RU
Weapons: 2 Laser Cannons, 2 Ion Cannons, 2 Concussion Missile Launchers (8 warheads).
Countermeasures: 15 Chaff Bursts or 10 Flares.

K-Wing

This short-range atmospheric bomber was developed by the New Republic about twelve years after the Battle of Endor. The four wings had eighteen unique positions, and could be adjusted depending on weaponry and payload. 18 modular hardpoints (10 up, 8 down) on the wings allows a wide range of projectile weaponry to be ftted to the ship. For example flechette missiles, thermal bombs, space mines, or flak guns. It carries a much heavier payload than any other NR fighter, equal to the TIE Bomber in total firepower. It can also be armed out as an assault fighter but suffers in maneuverability when more weapons are added. It first saw combat with the Fifth Battle Group near Bessimir during the Black Fleet Crisis. It is mainly replacing the older Y-Wing bomber, particularly in a ground support role. With dual shields, three engines and other redundant systems, it can take quite a lot of damage. The centerline third burst engine can provide short intervals of rapid acceleration similar to the Imperial SLAM system, giving it excellent hit-and-run capability.

Recommendation: Also known as the bomber straight from hell. Heavily armed, very fast and well defended but not as heavily as the B-Wing. They are usually escorted at a 2-1 or better ratio. Easy pickings with empty payload.

Specifications:

Name/Type: K-Wing
Designer/Manufacturer:Koensayr
Combat Role: Heavy Bomber/Heavy Assault
Crew: 1 + 1 Gunner
Length: 16 Meters
Speed: 140 MGLT, 1000 Kph
Acceleration: ~13 MGLT/s (bursts of ~26 MGLT/s)
Maneuverability: 50 DPF
Hyperdrive: None.
Shield Rating: 90 SBD
Hull Rating: 60 RU
Weapons: 1 Top-Turreted Dual Laser Cannon, 1 Turreted Front Quad Laser Cannon, 18 General Purpose Launchers (up to 18 warheads OR flak guns).
Countermeasures: Unknown (probably chaff/flare).

M-class Custom Fighter

Aka M-Wing. This starfighter was developed by the Rebels with parts from damaged BTL-A4 Y-Wings. The central portion of the fuselage houses a small cargo compartment behind the main cockpit. It was created in small numbers although it was said to be better than the Y-Wing, faster, more easily repaired, and more rugged. Some versions has an Ion Cannon instead of the center laser cannon.

Recommendation: Very rare to encounter, otherwise unremarkable. Strong shields for a superiorty fighter but relatively large, slow and sluggish.

Specifications:

Name/Type: M-class Custom Fighter
Designer/Manufacturer: Rebel Alliance
Combat Role: Superiority
Crew: 1 + 1 Gunner
Length: 16 Meters
Speed: 60 MGLT, 950 Kph
Acceleration: 11 MGLT/s (est.)
Maneuverability: 75 DPF
Hyperdrive: x1
Shield Rating: 75 SBD (est.)
Hull Rating: 30 RU (est.)
Weapons: 3 Heavy Laser Cannons.
Countermeasures: 20 Chaff Bursts or 13 Flares (est.)

Cutlass-9 Patrol Fighter

This fighter was designed before the Clone Wars for Sorosuub's internal use. The type 9 is the last model of the Cutlass-series. It was popular among nonhuman species and has three unused power conduits, making it easy to install upgrades. However the Clone Wars saw many new fighter designs, making the Cutlass-9 outdated and few later owners bothered with upgrades. The Cutlass-9 ceased production when Sorosuub was nationalized by the Empire, but when Sorosuub changed to support the rebels, it came into use by them, if in limited quantities since the rebels mostly needed capital ships and had for the most part better fighters than this. Sometimes the missile launcher was switched out for a torpedo launcher with the same capacity.

Specifications:

Name/Type: Cutlass-9 Patrol Fighter
Designer/Manufacturer: Sorosuub Corp
Combat Role: Superiority
Crew: 1
Length: 12 Meters
Speed: ~80 MGLT, 800 km/h
Acceleration: ~11 MGLT/s
Maneuverability: ~80 DPF
Hyperdrive: x2
Shield Rating: ~10 SBD
Hull Rating: ~25 RU
Weapons: 2 Laser Cannons, 1 Missile Launcher (8 Warheads).
Countermeasures: None.
