The Dark Jedi eventually found their way to Korriban, where they found an indigenous population of sentient humanoids, and subjugated them. While it is unknown exactly what the Sith were like when they first found them, it has been hypothesized that they were either near enough genetically to human for allowing them to breed, or they were genetically altered by the Dark Jedi to allow that. But, what is known is that in the ensuing centuries, the Dark Jedi and the Sith became one, and went on to forge the Great Sith Empire.
It was two thousand years since the Dark Jedi had arrived on Korriban, and in that time, they expanded their empire to include many worlds, and devise many new technologies, and improved the ones which they possessed. At the funeral of the late Sith Lord Marka Ragnos, hyperspace surveyors from the Republic found Korriban, and in the ensuing events, Naga Sadow managed to take control of the empire through a brief struggle with his primary rival, Ludo Kresh. With the Sith Empire under his control, he decided to preemptively attack the Republic, and thus started the Great Hyperspace War. Unfortunately for Naga Sadow, the Republic Rallied, and soon drove his forces from their space in defeat. Upon arriving once again at Korriban, he found things had changed in the Sith Empire. Ludo Kresh, whom he believed to have killed, had actually survived, and in Naga Sadow's absence from the Empire, secured the title of Lord of the Sith. The two rival factions battled, until when the Republic Fleet arrived, and was able to destroy both factions, and from there completely conquer the remains of the Sith Empire. It has been theorized that some of the Sith escaped destruction, and that the remains of the Sith Empire are hidden away, but it is also possible that these Sith took the opportunity and hid within the Republic as well. However, it is known that Naga Sadow survived the battle, and made his way to Yavin IV, where hid.
Several hundred years later, the Rogue Jedi Freedon Nadd found Yavin IV, Naga Sadow and the Massassi crew of Naga Sadow's battleship. There, Naga Sadow trained Freedon Nadd in the ways of the Sith, and it is presumed that eventually Naga Sadow's life was ended at the hands of Freedon Nadd. From there, Freedon Nadd traveled to Korriban, to hunt for Artifacts, and from there he made his way to Onderon. At Onderon, Freedon Nadd attempted to rebuild the Sith Empire, and he taught the Onderonians in the ways of the Sith. Unfortunately, the Jedi heard of his exploits and sent and army to destroy him. Freedon Nadd managed to preserve his soul in a Sith artifact despite being cut down by the Jedi, which was entombed with his fallen body. From there, he was able to guide his descendants and the course of Onderon, enough so that there was another crisis many years later. At that time, it was learned of Freedon Nadd's involvement, and he was entombed on Dxun, one of the moons of Onderon. There, the entire moon was corrupted by Nadd's dark taint. Fortunately, the Jedi did not entirely purge Onderon of Sith artifacts, but those that they did find, were sealed within Nadd's tomb.
During this time, the Krath in the Empress Teta system began their ascent to power, as they began accumulating sith artifacts and began to grow in power with the darkside, from a degree of cooperation with Freedon Nadd and his ancestors. After a bold strike at the Jedi, the young Jedi Ulic Qel-Droma came to the Krath for answers and revenge. The Krath, unsure of his loyalty, injected him with Sith Poison, a substance that greatly increases one's susceptibility to the Dark Side. Soon Ulic met up with Exar Kun, and after intervention by Marka Ragnos himself, the Sith Brotherhood under their command began to wage war upon the Republic, in what became known as the Great Sith War. Ulic eventually betrayed the Sith, going so far as to provide the Republic with vital information, and Exar Kun eventually shed his mortal body, and entombed his spirit within one of the many massassi temples on Yavin IV. Ulic was then stripped of his force powers by the Jedi. The Jedi and the Republic together then began what is now known as the Cleansing of the Nine Houses, in which the remnants of the Sith Brotherhood were hunted down and destroyed.
Shortly after the war, the Mandalorians began their a great crusade start, presumably started by the True Sith, and the Republic did nothing as the Mandalorians marched through rim worlds. Eventually, the Mandalorians attacked the Republic, but this time, the Jedi refused to participate in the war, for reasons regarding understanding the motivations behind the war and probably many more reasons. However, while the Jedi Council did nothing, two Jedi, Revan and Malak answered the Republic's call, and went to war, convincing many to join them. There, Revan's genious for warfare was revealed, with results of the destruction of the Mandalorian fleet and a decisive victory for the Republic. However, Revan and the forces under his command left Republic space, only to return a year later, this time, rather than as heroes, but invaders. Eventually, after being attacked by combined Jedi and Republic Forces, Revan was captured by the Jedi, who used him for their own ends, to defeat Malak and end the War. Unfortunately, in the fallout of that war, the Sith were not defeated, and after rebuilding their strength, three Sith Lords attacked once more, but this time, the Jedi were their targets. Eventually, the Sith were defeated, but not before a mortal wound was dealt to the Republic.
Nearly two millennia later, the Sith once again reemerged from the shadows of history. A Jedi fell to the darkside, and taking upon the name Darth Ruin, reformed the Sith Order. Eventually, this order rose to power over several centuries, before the campaign on Ruusan, in which the Sith, then under Lord Kaan, faced a force of jedi styled as the Army of Light. From that battle, all of the Jedi, and all the Sith save one was destroyed. The one survivor, Darth Bane, reformed the Sith Order, where open ambition was traded for secrecy and started the rule of two, in which there would never be more than two Sith Lords. Darth Bane and the subsequent Sith Lords, ploted from the shadows, gradually moving their pieces into position, when Darth Sidious and Darth Vader, the last two Sith Lords of this line, actually succeeded, and the Republic was reformed into the Galactic Empire and nearly destroyed the Jedi through the Jedi Purge. Darth Vader betrayed the Emperor, and killed him, causing momentary problems for the Empire, and the resulting chaos ended with the Rebellion gaining significant ground against the Empire. In a relatively short span of time after the defeat of the Empire at Endor, the Emperor was truly dead, and the Empire just a remnant of its former glory.
